Helen Edwards (she/her)
Archivist
"I have been a hockey fan since that fateful day in the 1950s when the Victoria Cougars sold game tickets to children for 5 cents to increase attendance," says Edwards. "I began a lifelong relationship with baseball when my Dad took me to games at Royal Athletic Park at age 3. I have been a hockey fan since that fateful day in the 1950s when the Victoria Cougars sold game tickets to children for 5 cents to increase attendance. I published “The History of Professional Hockey in Victoria, BC: 1911-2011” in 2019. This project was a labour of love intended as a thank-you to the hundreds of men who played for Victoria’s several professional hockey teams. It took eight years to research and has received good reviews. It is being republished in late 2023 with a new cover and updated information. It will be featured at the Scotiabank Hockey Day in Canada festivities of which I am a sponsor. I am the vice-president of SIHR and am currently working to bring the Spring Meeting to Victoria in 2025 to commemorate the centenary of the Stanley Cup victory. I joined the ownership group of the Victoria HarbourCats in 2020 and am currently writing the story of the franchise’s first ten year."
