The Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame is marking its 25th anniversary this year. In honour of this important milestone, quarter century celebrations will include a number of initiatives, kicked off by an exciting new event in the sports calendar -- a charity golf tournament on July 29th at the stunning Nicklaus designed Bear Mountain Golf Course.
This tournament marks a departure from the annual "Dobber" Classic, in honour of sportswriter Ken Dobson, which the Hall of Fame organized for 22 years. The Dobson family has decided to refocus its fund-raising efforts by earmarking proceeds from its tournament to benefit CFAX's Santas Anonymous in Victoria. Robert Hope, President of the Hall of Fame, expressed gratitude to the family for their years of support and wished them every success.
Paul Dobson, son of the "Dobber" stated, "Thank you to the Board for keeping the Dobber Classic going for so long and so well. Dad would be amazed and humbled by the amount of dollars raised, and somewhere, somehow he will have found a way to have a glass of beer and toast all of you! He would also be very happy that the funds will now go to CFAX’s Santas Anonymous Fund as that was also very near and dear to his heart."
The Hall of Fame wants to raise its profile in the community and strengthen ties to Bear Mountain where it has held its Annual Induction Ceremony and Dinner for the past two years. Details about the new golf tournament and other exciting developments will be announced in the coming months.
