Art Chapman, along with his brother "Chuck" and Doug Peden, led the Canadian basketball team to a silver medal in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Art was a brilliant playmaker on the court and as an unselfish center he set up his teammates for hoops time and again on the championship Victoria Blue Ribbon and Domino basketball teams. The team won no fewer than five Canadian and seven BC senior championships from 1933 to 1946. Like many athletes of his time, the economics of the Depression prevented him from leaving Victoria to pursue an athletic career elsewhere.
